Anime


Anime is a term used commonly to refer to
Japanese cartoons.  Anime is currently becomming very
popular in America, as can be seen with the success of shows like
Sailor Moon, Keropi, and in the 80's with the Transformers.
Most anime cartoons start out in Japan as Mangas, which are
comic books.  (There are a lot of specifics to determine the right
name for the comic, but I am not a die-hard anime fan and
can't really help you out there :)

This is a webpage dedicated to a few of the english-dubbed
or subtitled anime shows that I really dig :)  I know you care!

The Slayers

The Slayers is a cartoon about a young sorceress named Lina Inverse who teams up with a not-so-intelligent swordsman named Gourry Gabriev on a rather amusing quest.  Eventually they also meet Zelgadis, who happens to be my favorite character.  Only one story has been adapted to english from the Japanese cartoon so far.
The characters to your left are, from left to right and top to bottom, Zel, Gourry, Amelia, and Lina.  I don't like Amelia, I will not speak of her.

Zenki

Zenki is a series about a girl named Chiaki.  Her family owns
a temple in tribute to the demon god Zenki.
One day Zenki is awakened and Chiaki alone has the power
to control him,.. supposedly :)
Chiaki can turn Zenki-chan (picture below) into
ZENKI (pictured above), a very powerful
demon lord.  He, like Lina from The Slayers, is always
hungry.  Of course the only things he likes to eat are
possession seeds.  *hohum*
This is a really cute series, but the shows can easily become
repetative.  Alas!

Ranma 1/2

This is the story about a boy named Ranma who is betrothed to
Akane Tendo.  It's a very funny and enjoyable anime with
unexpected events and really bizarre plots.
One of the quirkiest things about it is how Ranma turns
into a girl whenever he is splashed with cold water.
(both versions of Ramna should appear to your left)

Devil Hunter Yohko


This was the first anime show I ever saw and liked !  It's about
this devil hunter named Yohko (creative title, eh?) who finds out
it's pretty much her job to protect the world against evil demons.
 Of course her mom seems more interested in when she's going to lose her virignity.
 I really like this show a lot, especially the first one, but the others I've seen have also been interesting.  Of course, how can one not like a show that includes a lot of references to sadism and bondage?

The girl to the right of Yohko (whose name I forgot) joins her in the
2nd episode (I think ;) to help her battle more pesky demons.

Sailor Moon

Does this show really need an introduction?  Sailor Moon is the
first anime I ever saw and loved that I didn't have to rent ;)
It's a cool story on how I learned about it so you
have to read it:
  One day my cousin Karen and I (along w/much of my family)
were in Houston at IHOP when this girl walked by
with some odd looking girl on her backpack.
Karen explained it was from some wierd cartoon that
came on late at night.  That very night I tried to
sleep, but she wouldn't shut up. Eventually she went into the
living room to watch TV.  A few minutes later
she ran to get me and we watched Sailor Moon
intently... after that we both
became die-hard Sailor Moon fans and tried to beat
each other out for who had the most videos, dolls, etc.
Ah so.. Sailor Moon is a long involved complex story
that I don't feel like typing about. In effect, this girl who
has a really interesting past has to protect the world from
evil forces.. she progressively gets a lot of sailor scouts
to help her.  Find any other webpage and you'll get
a lot more info ;)
